A Cocoon Fantasy,
Zemach Contemporary Art, Tel-Aviv, 2022
Beneath torn layers of paint lie bodies wrapped in colorful blankets. The work explores the tension between movement and stillness, life and death. Covered with gesso and overlaid with the hidden waterfall of the Judean Desert, it evokes a longing to erase the past and begin again. Through revealing and concealing, sanding and dissolving, fragments of the buried image continually resurface.

This series draws on Donald Kalsched's concept of A Cocoon Fantasy, together with Baroque sculpture and classical mythology. For me, painting is a body. Through covering, revealing, and peeling back layers of white gesso and oil paint, hidden figures emerge while others recede into the surface, becoming echoes of themselves. As images appear and disappear, movement takes shape, offering imagination and transformation as the opposite of A Cocoon Fantasy.
